According to Italian super agent Mina Raiola, Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy could snub a return to the Premier League in January in favour of a move to AS Roma. The 33-year-old Dutch international made clear his intentions to leave the Bernabeu yesterday as he goes in search of first team football ahead of the World Cup. Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Fulham have also been linked with a short-term move for the prolific veteran.

“Van Nistelrooy is finding little space at Real. His goal is the World Cup and he wants to persuade the Dutch coach to take him to South Africa. When big teams are involved, I never see problems with transfers,” Raiola told Radio Radio.

“If the player agrees, an operation is feasible. There would be a paid salary for only six months. However, I don’t know the opinion of coach Claudio Ranieri and Roma.
