Jermain Defoe has put his sensational five-goal haul down to studying Spurs legends on YouTube.

Furious Tottenham Hotspurs fans are forming-up to march on the DW Stadium in Wigan to deliver their demands for a replay in light of the shocking handball which gifted Austrian midfielder Paul Scharner a goal in the hard-fought 9-1 win on Sunday.
Scharner’s blatant handball in the lead-up to his goal for Wigan against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday was even more obvious than Thierry Henry’s “Hand of Gaul” against Ireland.
The goal came at a crucial point in the match, with Spurs defending a narrow 3-0 lead at home. Wigan’s subsequent performance clearly showed that Scharner’s strike had given them the confidence and self- belief to keep the Spurs score in single figures.

“We put them under a lot of pressure in that first 20 minutes and it was a good team effort. I had a couple of shots that were saved well in that first half and Keano said at half-time that a second goal would kill them off.
“We won the game in midfield. The lads were fantastic – we knew we’d get chances.

Jermain Defoe has revealed how he made a last-minute change of boots before his goal scoring frenzy helped Tottenham Hotspur thrash Wigan Athletic 9-1 and return to the top four. Spurs’ development coach Clive Allen, himself a prolific striker in his playing days, told the England striker to change his green boots, and the result was a five-goal haul at White Hart Lane.
It was Tottenham’s biggest victory for 32 years, since they defeated Bristol Rovers, and their biggest in the Premier League. “I had a funny feeling before the game,” said Defoe.
“I tried on a pair of green boots before the game, but Clive Allen said I couldn’t wear them, so I changed them. They were pinkish silver ones in the end, and I go and score five.”
Peter Crouch’s early strike gave Harry Redknapp’s men a half-time lead, with nothing at that stage suggesting Spurs would almost hit double figures. Robbie Keane, who was rested, told his team-mates in the dressing room they needed a second goal to kill Wigan off.

Redknapp suffered a 9-0 reverse in first match as a manager – Lincoln City beat Bournemouth on that occasion – and he did not celebrate in front of his Wigan counterpart Roberto Martinez as the goals crashed in. The Spaniard is hoping his side are not psychologically scarred from the defeat.
“The damage of this won’t be carried into the next game,” said Martinez. “We have enough characters in the dressing room and we need to react in the right way. I’ve never been involved in a game like this.
“From the mental point of view, we’ll get stronger from this. This is a very unique situation but we can use it in a positive way in terms of learning from these situations. We’ve never experienced this before.
“The biggest disappointment was how we started the first half, then the naivety that saw them scoring in the first ten minutes of the second half. It’s about damage limitation after that in terms of going into next week, avoiding yellow cards that will be carried into next week.”

Tottenham had a great start with striker Peter Crouch fired his side into a half-time lead over Wigan at White Hart Lane. Crouch struck within 8 mins helped by a cross from Aaron Lennon, who was making his return from an ankle injury that forced him to miss three games. Jermain Defoe struck the bar later in the opening first 45 minutes. Keane scored the goal that sent his country towards penalties in their play-off against France before Thierry Henry’s infamous handball – and Spurs boss Harry Redknapp chose to rest his striker on his return to club football.
Redknapp welcomed back Aaron Lennon after the England winger’s ankle injury, replacing Jermaine Jenas, while Michael Dawson was drafted in because Ledley King was out with a hamstring problem.
Niko Kranjcar was also recalled, while midfielder Wilson Palacios made his first appearance against the club he left in January.
Crouch always looked like he was going to score with a few warnings before his opener, the first seeing him stab side when Lennon put a cross from the right after immediately being part of the action on his comeback.
He also headed over at the near post after another cross from the same flank, this time from Palacios – but the former Portsmouth striker made no mistake with his third effort.
Palacios started the ninth-minute move by feeding Lennon on the right, with the England winger sending over a gorgeous cross between goalkeeper Chris Kirkland and centre-back Titus Bramble. Crouch was at the back post to head home.
Lennon almost added a second immediately after creating the opener, forcing Kirkland to save his volley on the rebound after Emmerson Boyce cleared off the line to deny Jermain Defoe.
Kirkland also saved from Palacios at full stretch after a 25-yard drive, while Wigan’s response was a volley from Diame that flew wide.
Tom Huddlestone was the next to go close, with a drive that went wide of Kirkland’s post.
Wigan kept looking for the counter-attack and Jason Scotland forced Gomes to save at his near post after former Spurs full-back Erik Edman set him up with the ball on the edge of the area. Charles N’Zogbia also went just over with a curling effort and got closer with a free-kick.
Before the break, Defoe raced onto Niko Kranjcar’s reverse ball and saw his finish tipped onto the crossbar by Kirkland. The England striker also had another powerful effort turned over by the goalkeeper.
Harry looked unhappy and whatever he said to the lads seemed to hit home Spurs came out and they looked hungry and then the mighty Spurs let rip Defoe scored his first two goals within three minutes of each other just after the restart.
The first came from another Lennon cross, with Defoe getting in front of Bramble and crashing his finish into the roof of the net. His second strike came after Palacios’ ball forward was totally missed by Emmerson Boyce, with Defoe keeping his cool to slot in at the far post.
Then came Scharner’s moment of controversy. Hugo Rodallega crossed the ball from the left and the Austrian midfielder clearly used his hand to control before lashing past Gomes and into the roof of the net.
The Spurs bench were furious with referee Peter Walton for letting the goal stand – but Defoe restored the three-goal cushion with his hat-trick straight away.
Lennon crossed again and this time Defoe volleyed home at the near post, meaning he wrapped up his treble in just seven minutes – still short of Robbie Fowler’s record when the Liverpool favourite struck in under five.
Lennon added the fifth himself after Crouch smuggled the ball out to his team-mate from a congested penalty area, with the winger angling his finish into the far post.

According to Italian super agent Mina Raiola, Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy could snub a return to the Premier League in January in favour of a move to AS Roma. The 33-year-old Dutch international made clear his intentions to leave the Bernabeu yesterday as he goes in search of first team football ahead of the World Cup. Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Fulham have also been linked with a short-term move for the prolific veteran.

Tottenham suffered a double blow on Thursday after goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini fractured his wrists and injured his pelvis in a serious road accident and striker Roman Pavlyuchenko announced he wants to quit the club.
Cudicini was admitted to hospital after his BMW superbike collided with a Ford Fiesta on Forest Road, Walthamstow, east London at 10.30am this morning.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper’s injuries were initially described by the police as ‘possibly life-changing’ but despite initial fears, the player has not fractured his pelvis.
A police spokesperson confirmed: “A 36-year-old male suffered injuries described as possibly life-changing and was taken to an east London hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
A spokesperson for Tottenham, who later confirmed the Italian’s injuries, said: “We can confirm Carlo Cudicini was involved in a road accident this morning.
“The club doctor is with him at hospital where we await the result of scans and tests.”
The female driver and a child passenger walked away from the car, which was described as a ‘write off’, and did not require hospital treatment.
Cudicini arrived at White Hart Lane last January on a free transfer following a decade at Chelsea.
The Italian has made eight appearances this season and only last month said he was keen to stay beyond the end of the campaign, when his contract expires.
“My contract is about to expire, but I would be happy to remain at Tottenham,” he said.
“However, I would consider Italian clubs if that wasn’t possible.”
He made his name at Chelsea joining the club from Castel Di Sangro in 1999, initially on loan before signing a permanent deal.
He was first choice for four seasons at Stamford Bridge before the arrival of Petr Cech.
Cudicini will now be lucky to play again this season and Spurs are expected to release further details of the extent of his injuries in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Pavlyuchenko wants showdown talks with boss Harry Redknapp and will demand he is sold in January.

“I want to leave the club,” Pavlyuchenko said.
“It is impossible to remain there under the circumstances I find myself in.
“I have been sitting on the subs’ bench for half a year and as a result lost a place in the starting 11 of the national team, and now hopefully we will get to the World Cup – who will rely on a forward who does not play?
“I want to play and not just warm the bench.”
Russia coach Guus Hiddink has already warned the striker – now fourth choice at Spurs behind Robbie Keane, Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe – that he could miss out all together if he is not playing regularly.
Pavlyuchenko cost Spurs £14 million from Spartak Moscow in August 2008, but he has made just six appearances in all competitions for Spurs this season, scoring one goal, and has lost his place in the Russia team.
Hiddink’s side take on Slovenia in their World Cup play-off in Moscow on Saturday with a place at the World Cup at stake.
Pavlyuchenko will then express to Redknapp his desire to depart Spurs.
“Immediately after the games with Slovenia, my agent and I are flying to London for purposeful negotiations and I want to take part in them personally,” he told Russia’s Sport Express newspaper.
“I will ask the management to quote a reasonable price for me.
“Our manager, Harry Redknapp, does not talk to me on the matter.
“At the start of the season, our manager said that four forwards is exactly the optimal number, but now he states that three is enough. I am the fourth one so it is obvious that I should part with the club.
“The only thing that can stand in the way is unmanageable price, but I will insist on leaving.
“The important thing now is to reach a compromise that will be suitable for the club and me, and my future club.”
