Ben Arfa could leave Marseille for Spurs

Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier admits Hatem Ben Arfa could leave the club in January.

The highly-rated 22-year-old has failed to live up to his promising reputation following his switch from Lyon to the Stade Velodrome last year.

Arfa has been linked with Tottenham and Portsmouth, also had a bust-up with Marseille coach Didier Deschamps and has been criticised for his lack of work-rate and bad attitude.

But more recently the winger has enjoyed some impressive performances for the Ligue 1 side since taking advantage of Mamadou Niang’s shoulder injury.

But he paid tribute to club development coach Clive Allen, who advised him to change his boots before the game, and striking consultant Les Ferdinand.

Spurs fans to contest greatest injustice in history of football?

Topspur noticed this little cracker lol from stv.tv

Furious Tottenham Hotspurs fans are forming-up to march on the DW Stadium in Wigan to deliver their demands for a replay in light of the shocking handball which gifted Austrian midfielder Paul Scharner a goal in the hard-fought 9-1 win on Sunday.

Scharner’s blatant handball in the lead-up to his goal for Wigan against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday was even more obvious than Thierry Henry’s “Hand of Gaul” against Ireland.

The goal came at a crucial point in the match, with Spurs defending a narrow 3-0 lead at home. Wigan’s subsequent performance clearly showed that Scharner’s strike had given them the confidence and self- belief to keep the Spurs score in single figures.

The Scoreboard Says It All

The Scoreboard Says It All

With the English Premier League at its most open in years, Spurs are said to be gutted that the record now shows they did not keep a clean sheet.

In the aftermatch of the Ireland scandal, Niall Quinn said the decision in France was the biggest injustice in the history of sport. The timing of Scharner’s offence will surely mean it is seen as the worst event in the history of everything.

Scharner is expected to admit his guilt as soon as the governing body has confirmed there is absolutely no chance of the match being replayed.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is expected to call again for video evidence to be used. After the Ireland match he said: “We’ve put a man on the moon and we can’t see if the ball has hit a hand.” He may now be preparing to lobby the Premier League to appoint NASA scientists to work on a solution.

The London club may need to offer Robbie Keane counselling after the Republic of Ireland international was forced to witness his second injustice at the hands of officialdom in the space of five days. The striker was named on the bench for his club’s game at the weekend after the controversy and disappointment of the match in Paris and saw a repeat of Wednesday’s horrific decision.

The controversial goal has had implications far beyond the clubs involved. Roy Keane is said to be physically flagellating himself into a frenzy ahead of a press conference where he will criticise Spurs overall performance, tell them to “get over it” and offer a square-go to London.

Gordon Brown is also expected to weigh into the debate, calling for the rules to be changed immediately. Once the rules have been amended, the Prime Minister will then allow them to be applied retroactively, leading to a planned replay of every football match ever played.

Unofficial referee’s watchdog Sir Alex Ferguson ignored the incident but commented that Spur’s final and decisive goal coming in the fourth minute of added time showed that they were already showing all the hallmarks of a ‘Big Four’ club.

10 goals and they want a refund cant please everyone COYS

Taken from Topspur News

Wigan Athletic’s playing staff have offered to reimburse the entrance fees for all supporters who travelled to White Hart Lane to witness their 9-1 destruction at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Spurs equalled the record for goals scored in a Premier League game when producing a ruthless second-half performance, with Jermain Defoe scoring five goals to equal the record jointly held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.

After suffering such acute embarrassment, Wigan’s players will now personally refund the admission price paid by every Latics supporter who attended the game in North London.

Ohh thats not nice

Ohh thats not nice

“We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters yesterday (Sunday), and this is a gesture we have to make and pay them back for their tremendous loyalty,” Melchiot told the club’s official website.

“There’s not a lot else to say, just that as a group of professionals we were embarrassed by the way we performed. We feel it was below our standard and this is something we feel we owe to the fans.

“Now we have to draw a line under the game, focus completely on training this week and bounce back on Saturday. We are professionals, we will take it on the chin and move on, but it’s important that we do not take our supporters for granted.”

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez said after the game: “It was unacceptable and unexpected. The way we defended in key moments was not good enough. I am embarrassed as it’s a result we don’t want to be associated with. We need to move on quickly and give a good reaction in the next game.”

“Genuine top-four challenge” says Mabbutt JD “like a dream.”

Jermain Defoe has described his five-goal haul against Wigan Athletic as “like a dream.”

The Spurs striker was on cloud 9 after Spurs crushed Wigan 9-1 at White Hart Lane, with Peter Crouch, Aaron Lennon, Niko Kranjcar and David Bentley joining him on the score sheet Jermain said…..

“The most important thing was to win the game, to win 9-1 was brilliant and to score five goals was fantastic,” Defoe told the club’s official site.

With the match ball

With the match ball

“It was a like a dream, brilliant. The lads can’t believe it. The finishing – look at Niko’s finish and David Bentley’s free-kick. All the goals were unbelievable.

“We put them under a lot of pressure in that first 20 minutes and it was a good team effort. I had a couple of shots that were saved well in that first half and Keano said at half-time that a second goal would kill them off.

“We won the game in midfield. The lads were fantastic – we knew we’d get chances.

“The hat-trick goal probably meant the most. Azza got down the line, cut back a great ball and I got across the defender to finish it off. The feeling when you get the third is brilliant.

“It’s important for me to keep my head, go back into training and look ahead to the next game.”

He’s only the fourth Spur to achieve the five-goal feat after Ted Harper (1930), Alf Stokes (1957) and Les Allen (1960).

On a day may fans from both sides will never forget Spurs always looked threatening.

Gary Mabbutt believes Tottenham’s stunning destruction of Wigan provided further proof that his old club are well-placed to mount a genuine top-four challenge this season.

And former Tottenham captain Mabbutt told Sky Sports News there is no reason to believe the so-called big four are out of reach – especially with Rafael Benitez’s side already five points adrift of Harry Redknapp’s.

He said: “How can you urge caution after beating Wigan 9-1? The Spurs fans will enjoy that for a while, though of course there have been a few false dawns over the years.

“I would say that looking at the squad we certainly have the potential to maintain a sustained challenge in the championship.

“This has made everybody else sit up and take notice of Tottenham’s credentials, and if you look over the past few years one of the top four has faltered.

“Three and four years ago it was Arsenal, and Tottenham pushed them all the way and nearly gained a Champions League place, just falling into fifth spot both times.

“Two years ago Everton pushed Liverpool all the way, just missing out. Last year, Arsenal faltered again and Aston Villa really should have taken fourth spot.

“This year it looks like Liverpool are the ones that are struggling and that means Tottenham, Aston Villa and Manchester City – one of those three – has a great opportunity to break into that top four.

“With the form Tottenham are in we’ve got a great chance if we maintain what we’re doing and keep working hard.”

Redknapp: JD can be unstoppable

TAKEN FROM TOPSPUR NEWS

Jermain Defoe has revealed how he made a last-minute change of boots before his goal scoring frenzy helped Tottenham Hotspur thrash Wigan Athletic 9-1 and return to the top four. Spurs’ development coach Clive Allen, himself a prolific striker in his playing days, told the England striker to change his green boots, and the result was a five-goal haul at White Hart Lane.

It was Tottenham’s biggest victory for 32 years, since they defeated Bristol Rovers, and their biggest in the Premier League. “I had a funny feeling before the game,” said Defoe.

“I tried on a pair of green boots before the game, but Clive Allen said I couldn’t wear them, so I changed them. They were pinkish silver ones in the end, and I go and score five.”

Peter Crouch’s early strike gave Harry Redknapp’s men a half-time lead, with nothing at that stage suggesting Spurs would almost hit double figures. Robbie Keane, who was rested, told his team-mates in the dressing room they needed a second goal to kill Wigan off._46779365_008315440-1

I don’t see why Defoe can’t be the top scorer in the Premier League. When he concentrates and plays his football, he can be unstoppable.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp on Jermain Defoe

Defoe, when asked if they needed the ninth goal, joked: “Maybe a tenth.” Aaron Lennon and Niko Kranjcar also netted, while David Bentley’s free-kick went in off Chris Kirkland, who made a string of fine saves despite the scoreline.

Redknapp believes his player can finish top goalscorer in the Premier League, and cement himself in Fabio Capello’s England squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. “I don’t see why Defoe can’t be the top scorer in the Premier League this season,” he said.

“It’s about time he scored 20 goals in a season. I don’t know whether he’s done it before, maybe with West Ham, but he should be able to do that. He’s been so sharp in training. You could see this coming.”

Defoe recently came back from a three-match suspension for violent conduct, after getting sent off against Portsmouth. Tottenham duly lost two of the games he missed.

“The England manager will have watched him and he can’t react that way,” Redknapp added about his striker, who joined Ted Harper, Alf Stokes and Les Allen as Tottenham players to have score five times in a match. “But he’s come back strong. When he concentrates and plays his football, he can be unstoppable.”

Learning experience for Latics
Redknapp suffered a 9-0 reverse in first match as a manager – Lincoln City beat Bournemouth on that occasion – and he did not celebrate in front of his Wigan counterpart Roberto Martinez as the goals crashed in. The Spaniard is hoping his side are not psychologically scarred from the defeat.

“The damage of this won’t be carried into the next game,” said Martinez. “We have enough characters in the dressing room and we need to react in the right way. I’ve never been involved in a game like this.

“From the mental point of view, we’ll get stronger from this. This is a very unique situation but we can use it in a positive way in terms of learning from these situations. We’ve never experienced this before.

“The biggest disappointment was how we started the first half, then the naivety that saw them scoring in the first ten minutes of the second half. It’s about damage limitation after that in terms of going into next week, avoiding yellow cards that will be carried into next week.”

Italians ready to scupper Spurs move for Nostrillboy

NEWS FROM www.topspur.info

According to Italian super agent Mina Raiola, Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy could snub a return to the Premier League in January in favour of a move to AS Roma. The 33-year-old Dutch international made clear his intentions to leave the Bernabeu yesterday as he goes in search of first team football ahead of the World Cup. Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Fulham have also been linked with a short-term move for the prolific veteran.

Well thats no suprise

Well thats no suprise

“Van Nistelrooy is finding little space at Real. His goal is the World Cup and he wants to persuade the Dutch coach to take him to South Africa. When big teams are involved, I never see problems with transfers,” Raiola told Radio Radio.

“If the player agrees, an operation is feasible. There would be a paid salary for only six months. However, I don’t know the opinion of coach Claudio Ranieri and Roma.

Harry set for shock swoop on Lomana LuaLua

ALL THE NEWS FROM www.topspur.info

Tottenham are being linked with a shock move for Lomana LuaLua with reports claiming a deal for the striker is imminent.

The Congo international knows Spurs boss Harry Redknapp well from their time together at Portsmouth and it looks as though a reunion could be on the cards.

LuaLua is expected to become a free agent after negotiating his release from Qatar club Al-Arabi and Redknapp will be allowed to swoop outside of the transfer window.

The 28-year-old’s career has faltered since he left Pompey initially for Greek side Olympiakos but Redknapp wants to get him back on track and could offer him a two-and-half year deal.

When Lua Lua joined Portsmouth on a three-month loan deal with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season LuaLua scored on his debut for Portsmouth in a 4–3 away defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in February 2003

Rumour mill says hes on his way

During this loan spell he scored in the 89th minute in a 1–1 draw for Portsmouth against parent club Newcastle. The result lifted Portsmouth out of the bottom three of the Premiership. He scored four goals in 15 appearances for Portsmouth as they finished in mid-table in their debut season in the Premiership.

Manager Harry Redknapp was sufficiently impressed with LuaLua’s performances that when his loan spell ended at the end of the 2003–04 season, he signed LuaLua permanently at a cost of £1.75 million.

LuaLua made 26 league and cup appearances, scoring six goals, including two against local rivals Southampton, in the 2004–05season. The season was marred by a groin injury at the beginning and a hamstring injury in May 2005.Disciplinary problems led to charges by the Football Association of abusive behaviour in December 2004 and improper conduct after he was sent off against Blackburn Rovers in January 2005, for which he received an extra one-match ban and a fine of £5,000 in addition to a three-match ban for the dismissal.

He made 26 appearances in the 2005–06 season, scoring seven goals, but missed several games in the autumn after contracting malaria on a visit to Africa to play for DR Congo. He also missed several games due to international duty at the 2004 African Cup of Nations and missed games in April 2006 after damaging his foot while doing his acrobatic goal celebration during a game against Arsenal.

His disciplinary problems continued when he was warned by the Football Association over his future conduct; this came after he admitted a charge of improper conduct in relation to comments made about referee Uriah Rennie after a 3–1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur in December.

LuaLua signed a new three-year contract in July 2006; it was set to keep him at Portsmouth until 2009. An ankle injury suffered in a pre-season friendly led to LuaLua missing the beginning of the2006–07 season.

He struggled to break back into the first-team, making only eight starts out of 24 appearances, and scored only two goals in that season.] Manager Harry Redknapp warned him that he needed to “…start performing” and that he had to “…start producing next season”.

However, he joined Greek club Olympiakos in August 2007 and Redknapp admitted that, “Lua wants to move on… I’ve no doubt he’ll go away and be a great player for Olympiakos. He wants a change, he wants to play in a role behind the strikers and he wants to move abroad. He will get to play in the Champions League by moving to Greece. He has been a top Premier League player and he’ll be a top player for them.

Olympiakos

LuaLua joined Olympiakos for a fee of around £2.8 million (€4.1 million) in August 2007, signing a three-year contract. He made his 2007–08 Super League debut in a 0–0 draw with Panathinaikos on 2 September

His first goals for his new club came in the following Super League fixture when he scored twice in Olympiakos’ 6–2 victory against OFI Crete on 23 September. LuaLua opened the scoring with a 30-yard volley and contributed to a historic 4–0 victory in a cup-tie against arch-rivals Panathinaikos in January 2008.

An ankle injury kept him out of Olympiakos’ Champions League first leg tie with Chelsea in February. A more serious injury, a dislocated shoulder, suffered during a Super League game againstAsteras Tripolis in March, meant he missed the second leg Champions League match against Chelsea too.

He was out of action for most of the rest of the season, returning against Iraklis in late April to help Olympiakos win a fourth straight Greek championship. He fell out of favour shortly before the Greek Cup final in May and was placed on the transfer list.

He had scored six goals in 30 appearances for Olympiakos.

Al-Arabi

Following his injury hit spell at Olympiakos, LuaLua joined Qatar based club Al-Arabi on a one-year contract in July 2008 According to LuaLua’s official website, he rejected offers from clubs in Russia, Spain and Saudi Arabia deciding that the offer was too good to refuse.

He cited the departure of the manager and sporting director, who brought him to Olympiakos, as a reason for his departure from the Greek club. On 30 October, Al-Arabi won the Sheikh Jassem Cup, beating Al-Rayyan Club 3–0 in the final with LuaLua scoring one goal in the seventh minute

In the 21st week of the 2008–09 season, on 20 February 2009, LuaLua scored his first league goal for the club in a 4–2 defeat to Al-Khor. His only other goal for that season came in a 1–0 win over Al-Kharitiyath on 16 April.
